FATAL GASTRO-ENTERITIS.

MAORI INFANT'S DEATH.

OPOTIKI, this day.

A sequel to a second fatal case of gastro-enteritis was heard at Waioeka pa yesterday, when the district coroner, Mr. F. J. Short, inquired into the death of a nine months el* Maori infant, Maihi Pio.

The evidence of the parents showed that the child took ill on Tuesday, and developed serious symptoms the following day, but before the services of the district nurse could be obtained the child died early on Thursday morning.

Evidence of tliu cause of death was given by Dr. Candy, and the coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
