CABLE STEAMER.
RECORDER FOR SINGAPORE,
A familiar craft on the Auckland Harbour for the past 34 years, the cable steamer Recorder, is to leave these waters on Monday next, via Australia, for Singapore, which will be her headquarters for probably three years. The Recorder's withdrawal from Auckland has been necessitated by the loss of another of the company's vessels, which struck a reef off the coast of Cochin China. At Sydney the Recorder is to pick up a master and officers and a crew oi G2 Maliiy.s and Chinese. Captain W. Oliver will leave the vessel at Sydney on six month*,' furlough, during which lie will make a trip to England" , . The only officers who will continue service in the ship at the new station are the chief officer, Mr. T. A. Vickers, the chief engineer, Mr. W Foster, and the second engineer, Mr. W. Kelly; while the cable joiner, Mr. L. Gamble, will probably proceed to Singapore and then return to Xe\y Zealand.
