TO RE-REGISTER.
UNEMPLOYED WOMEN. ANOMALIES FOUND IN LIST. BELIEF WORKERS' WIVES ON IT. It will be necessary for the women who recently registered at the Town Hall as being unemployed to re-register 011 the Unemployment Board's form if they desire to qualify for employment or relief, according to a statement issued to-day by the deputy-chairman of the Unemployment Board, Mr. W. Bromley. Jlr. Bromley pointed out that a preliminary examination of the registrations had revealed that the list included the names of wives of relief workers, pensioners and women unfit for work owing to ill-health, and re-registration in these cases could not be accepted.
"The examination of the registrations taken at the Town Hall is proceeding with the greatest expedition, and whilst it is too early to give a summary of them, it is abundantly manifest th.it the details furnished 011 the registration forms are quite inadequate for the purposes of granting relief," said Mr. Bromley.
'•'Many of the women who registered are wives of relief workers who are already participating i:i the Christmas bonus, and relief through their husbands. Others who registered are pensioners in receipt of the eld age pension. Others, again, are 011 their own declaration lift Jit for work of any kind through ill-health • and are quite possibly hi receipt of Hospital Board relief.
"The majority have not supplied any details as to age, whether married or single, or whether available for employment or not. It is quite evident that, to qualify for relief, re-registratisn will be necessary and those anxious to qualify for employment or relief should take an early opportunity to complete the board's form of registration, which may be obtained at the women's employment bureau, Newton East School, Upper Queen Street, Auckland.
"It should be noted, nowever, that registration will not be accepted from the wife of a worker on relief paid by the Unemployment Board, from'women in receipt of the old age pension, or from women who are unemployed solely on account of ill-health. This latter group, if in need of relief, should make application to the Hospital Board authorities. The staff at the women's employment bureau is being strengthened and females seeking employment or relief should effect registration without delay."
