NOTES FROM ELLERSLIE.
RECENT ARRIVALS. Big Dook, Vanestep and Shu, who arrived from Woodville on Saturday, and Golden Blonde and Small Boy, who were brought over by float from Gisborne yesterday, were on tlie track at Ji<llerslio this morning, and were given useful tasks. Big Dook, who claims an engagement in the Auckland Cup and Christmas Handicap on Boxing Day, looks a. much improved horse since he was here last. At present it is not known which race lie will contest, but it is probable that his mission will be the Christmas Handicap. Vanestep looks a very fit mare, and although, a shade on. the small side she is very solidly built, and for a low-set mare is nice and lengthy. K. Marsh has been engaged to ride her in the Auckland Cup, and if she runs up to her form at Riccarton she should again be in the money. . , . Hest and Shu both look in solid racing condition, and the latter, has been a consistent winner recently. He is engaged in the Queen's Plate and the Great Northern Derby, and will be ridden in the former event by P. Atkins. Golden Blonde and Small Boy are in nice order, and the former should have prospects in two-year-old races. Small Boy has been successful on one occasion this season, but he will be meeting stronger fields in hack events at Ellerslie, and will be well tested.
