HOLIDAY IN LINER.
TOURISTS BOOKING. QUEEN MARY'S MAIDEN VOYAGE. LONDON, November 2. The Cunard White Star giant liner Queen Mary looks like being the most popular holiday ship of 1936. Many inquiries from tourist agencies and private persons in England and America for holiday voyages next summer have been received by the company. The Queen Mary will carry 3550 passengers, and many more than this number have applied for berths on hei maiden voyage, which is expected to begin on May 20. A Cunard White Star official stated that, despite the exceptional amenities the Queen Mary will provide, the fares will not be much higher than those charged in such ships as the Majestic and Berengaria. The figures remain to be agreed to by the North Atlantic Passenger Conference. Holiday-makers are being attracted not only by the lavishness of the equipment, which gives third-class passengers amenities that only the first class received before the war, but by the fact that her great speed will give them a longer stay in Europe or America. The largest accommodation in the Queen Mary is for the tourist class, but many people are expected to travel third class.
