UNEMPLOYED WOMEN.
DISTRIBUTION OF BONUS. IMMEDIATE ACTION URGED. A decision to ask the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. Ernest Davis, to ask the Minister of Employment, Mr. Armstrong, to put into immediate action the administering of the Christmas bonus to the unemployed was made at a meeting of the National Working Women's Movement at the Town Hall concert chamber yesterday afternoon. Mrs. M. B. Soljak presided over an attendance of about 200.
It was decided to ask the Minister of Health, Mr. Eraser, to institute an open court inquiry in connection with the Auckland Hospital Board's grocery contract.
Mrs. Soljak said that as the result of pressure women were to share in the Christmas bonus, and all should register. It had been understood from the start of the compilation of a roll for women at the Town Hall that it should, be the basis of any distribution such as was now proposed. The total on the roll exceeded 500.
A committee was set up to assist if required, in the distribution of the bonus to unemployed women.
