TRAFFIC OFFENCES.
LORRY OWNERS FINED. OVERLOADING AND SPEEDING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, Wedneesday. At a sitting of,the Magistrate's Court yesterday four charges were preferred against three owners of vehicles by the Waikato Council through its inspector, Mr. K. Metcalfe. Douglas A. Norman was charged with carrying an excessive weight on hie motor lorry 011 the Great South 'Road, near Te Awamutu, on September 18. Defendant said he was in hospital at the time and bis employee was a new driver. A fine of £1 and costs £1 was imposed, and defendant was allowed one month in which to pay. Clifford P. Morgan, of Remuera, was charged with driving at an excessive speed on the Great South Road, near Te Awamutu, on November 5. The inspector said that the lorry was travelling at from 32 to 38 miles per hour. The lorry was carrying fruit and the driver said he was running late. A fine of £2 and costs 10/ was imposed.
Two charges were preferred against Allan Burgess, carter, of Otorohanga, in respect to alleged offences oil the Great South Road,= near Te Awamutu, on November 5. One was of overloading his motor vehicle and the other was of exceeding the road classification. It was admitted the road classification was exceeded. Fines of £3 and costs 10/ on the first charge and £1 10/ and costs 10/ on the eecond were imposed.
