HAWERA TRACK.
LOWENBERG'S PROGRESS,
SOME AUCKLAND CANDIDATES,
Hawera stables will be represented at Auckland, Palmerston North, .New Plymouth, Marton and Stratford during the holiday racing. * . The New Zealand Derby winner Lowenberg looks in great order, and is to fulfil his Auckland engagements. He has been doing plenty of steady exercise, and Trainer Cox can be relied on to give him all the speeding up required to fit him ior his Great Northern Derby task. He may probably race at Waipa. ~ , Although nominated for the Auckland Cup Fersen is likely to be kept for New Plymouth and Stratford meetings, for which fixtures he promises to strip a very fit and fancied competitor. Whenuakura, although not entered for the Auckland Railway Handicap, is to be nominated for the other sprint events at Ellerslie, and all going well will make the trip. The most pleasing feature about Whenuakura's performance at Feilding was that he pulled up perfectly sound, and when seen at exercise yesterday morning appeared all the better for his outing. Notiums programme has not been definitely fixed, but after his failure on Saturday lie may be placed to avoid meeting the top class two-year-olds at Christmas. Dombey, who had been working well on the tracks, scored in good style, giving his Waverley owner, Mr. W. C. Simpson, an overdue win. Purchased last January, Dombey did not do at all well during the! remaining part of the season, and came in this spring after his winter recess looking a wreck. His trainer, W. Grindlay, was unremitting in his attention, and schooling him got him into fair shape for Waverley, where he ran moderately well in the hurdle race. He continued to improve, and promises to be a useful stakeearner during the holiday racing. Dombey will probably race at the Manawatu and Marton fixtures, returning for the final day of the Stratford meeting. J. Fryer intends sending Alchemic to the Manawatu meeting, and Soloist, after competing at New Plymouth, may be taken to Auckland for the two concluding days at Ellerslie with one of the two-year-olds. Carfex will represent J. Brown at New Plymouth, and probably Seeadler will be given a run in the juvenile Jaces. Brilliancy has been recommissioned after a short let up. Brilliancy lias made marked progress in appearance and style, and will be one of the interesting youngsters at the New Plymouth meeting. The ailment that prevented Knock Out from running at Levin is yielding to treatment, and the mare is being kept at steady exercise. Friesland, a, stablemate, is in great order, and has only to begin well to be hard to beat in his races. H. Mills is handling a rady looking two-'year-old filly by Lackham from Airway, belonging to Mr. J. Bublitz, who farmerly raced her dam, Airway. Autumn Leaf, the half-brother to Richfield, who was a promising maiden, has had a recurrence of knee trouble, and has been turned out indefinitely. A newcomer to J. Fryer's stable is the Limond—Seasprite mare Seamond, formerly trained by J. Butler at Stratford. Ingenuity did not return from Feilding as she is to run at the Woodville meeting to-morrow and Saturday.
