MASTERTON CONTEST.

MB. ROBERTSON'S GOOD LEAD

In a report which was published from Carterton on Monday confusion occurred between the names of Messrs. J. Robertson, the successful Labour candidate for Masterton, and Ben Roberts, the Labour candidate in the Wairarapa contest. The report made reference to Mr. J. Roberts as the c-andidate for Masterton and stated that his majority still remained at 25, with approximately 000 absentee and postal votes to come. The report had reference to the Wairarapa contest, in which the Labour candidate was Mr. B. Roberts.

Mr. Robertson won the Masterton seat with a lead of 310 over the next candidate, Mr. G. R. Sykes, who stood in the National Government interests.

CONGRATULATIONS.

BIRKENHEAD MESSAGES.

The Birkenhead Borough Council last night unanimously resolved to tender hearty congratulations to Mr. M. J. Savage on his distinction of being the first-Labour Prime Minister of New Zealand, and wish him and his team a successful term of office.

, A further resolution was passed congratulating Mr. IT. G. R. Mason on his re-election as Parliamentary represcnta. tivc of Auckland Suburbs.
