At the first of the season's wool sake to-day 5049 bales were offered, including 5278 Xcw Zealand. About S3OO Australian • ami' New Zealand were sold. There'wae a crowded attendance, with brisk Yorkshire and Continental competition and the United States taking slipes. Compared with October closing rates Merinos, greasy, were 5 to 7J per qent higher; scoured, 10 per cent; croesbreds, greasy, fine, 10. per cent; medium coarse and slipe.s, 10 to 15 per cent. New Zealand greasy crossbred, Hautotara, top price, 13Jdj average, IOJd. \t. \ntwcrp tops for December delivery are quoted at 28 3-Sd per lb, for March 28 3-8 d and for May 28Jd. Private Cables. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office under date of 19th inst.: "The sale 3 have opened with etrong competition and a large attendance of buyers, with an active demand by Homo and foreign buyers. Compared with the close of last series Merinos are Id to IJa higher and croesbreds are Id to Id higher."
