RECKLESS DRIVING.
MOTORIST FINED £20. "A VERY BAD CASE." A fine of £20 and costs was imposed on a motorist, Peter V. H. Maxwell, by Air. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, on a charge of negligently driving a motor car on the Auckland-Howick highway on September 27. Defendant, who was represented by Mr. Robinson, pleaded guilty. Sub-Tnspcctor Fox said that Maxwell had driven at an excessive speed towards Auckland. When on the Panmure side of the Panmure Bridge, his car took the wrong side of the road and struck a motor cycle, injuring both the rider and the rider's father, who was on the pillion seat. Mr. Robinson said his client had never been in trouble before, and drew attention to the fact that the accident occurred on a narrow part of the road. "This is a very bad case of reckless use of the highway, defendant being on the wrong side of the road and travelling at a fast rate," said the magistrate. "He was a danger to other users of the highway-" . - - , ■■■-■ -- -
