GERMAN ARRESTED. Serious Charges Faced in England. BREACH OF SECRETS ACT. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 12.30 p.m.) LOXDON, November 19. The "Sketch" reports the arrest at Harwich of Dr. Hermann Gortz, a German, on a charge of espionage. He is alleged to have been in possession of documents contrary to the Official Secrets Act. Dr. Gortz has been in custody a week. The German Embassy has supplied him with a list of German-speaking lawyers. It is understood that the charge relates to alleged espionage at the Koyal Air Force aerodrome at Manston,. near Broadstairs. Dr. Gortz is charged, first, with contravention of the Official Secrets Act; secondly, witli conspiring with another person not in custody to commit offences against the Act. Before the war Dr. Gortz studied surgery at Edinburgh. He returned to Germany on the outbreak of hostilities and served in the German Air Force. After the war he frequently visited England. Occasionally Dr. Gortz was accompanied to England by a young woman, believed to be his* daughter or a niece, who acted as his secretary. Dr. Gortz spent varying periods in the West of England, and also visited various places near London. Early this year Dr. Gortz went back to Germany, but in the late autumn he announced that he intended to return to England for a few weeks. He was arrested as he disembarked at Harwich early this month.
