"RIMA" AGAIN DISFIGURED.
Epstein's "Rima," the Hudson memorial in Hyde Park, London, has again been disfigured. It was discovered one. day last month that someone had splashed blobs of some red substance over the memorial. The Hyde Park police were informed, and after examining the stains, came to the conclusion that they had been caused by permanganate of potash. "Rima." which was unveiled by Mr. Baldwin in 192G.. represents a female figure with /lying birds. Ever, since its erection it has been the subject of strong criticism. It is probably the ■most maltreated statue in London, having been tarred and feathered and painted red, green and black. Each time it has had to undergo rigorous scouring by Oflice of Works officials:before being exposed for further criticism. After the Office' of Works had been informed of the discovery a large canvas screen wae placed in front of "Rima,"' and two workmen, using chemicals and pumice stone, set about the task of cleaning oft" the splashes. It was expected that the work would take several'days.
