HOSPITAL SUPPLIES. MASTBK GROCERS' REQUEST. The Auckland Master Groee 'a' Association wrote to tlio Aueklan 1. Hospital Board yesterday stating that at a mass meeting of the grocery trade a resolution was carried that tho _ meeting viewed with grave concern the investigating accountants' report in connection with the. supply of groceries to recipients of Charitable 'aid relief, and asked the board to arrange for a similar investigation of previous years' supplies. Tho chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, said that ho understood that the dockets had been destroyed after being examined by tho Audit Department, and that there would bo nothing to go on. Mr. E. H. Potter moved that the matter should bo referred to the finance committee. Mr. J. Waddcll asked what would be the use of an inquiry without the dockets, as it would only be beating the air. The Rev. W. C. Wood said that it srorncu that tho answer to be sent was that the dockets had been destroyed, and tho reason could be given. There was no possibility of anything being revealed prior to the recent investigation by Mr. Grey Campbell, when it was shown that most of tho defects were due to rise and fall in prices. The rise and fall condition only came into existence four years ago, and not for the period that the dockets were destroyed. Mr. Potter said that the reason of the motion was that a considered reply could be given. He was of the opinion that tho invoices would still be in existence, although the dockets might be destroyed, and the invoices could still be examined. The motion was carried.
