WATERPROOF MATCHES.
Now that warmer weather is here once more, many of you will be commencing tramping again, but spring is a treacherous time, too, and you never know when you will be caught in a storm. Drenched to the skin, you rush for the nearest shelter, and, if possible, light a roaring fire. But, alas! All your matches are soaked too, and you can only sit and shiver. But next time, if you are wise, you will make your matches waterproof before setting out. This is how to do it. Melt a piece of candle and dip the matches in the liquid. Do not insert merely the tips, because if the sticks are wet the*matches will, fizzle out the moment the head'is burnt. After dipping the matches let them dry on a sheet of newspaper, or, better still, blotting paper. Do not return them to their boxes before tliey are quite hard.
