PUKEKOHE POTATOES.
SUPPLIES IMPROVE SLIGHTLY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, Tuesday. Supplies of Pukekohc potatoes, although still very limited, have shown a slight improvement as compared with tlie position yefclerday. The recent heavy rain had the efl'ect of eevcrcly handicapping digging operations and ae a result few were offering yesterday morning, while there was an exceptionally heavy demand from all parts o£ New Zealand. Such wae the position that merchants were unable to quote prices and orders were accepted only on the "open price, open delivery" basis. The weather was fine yesterday and today, and this has enabled some growers to recommence digging. This morning merchants were able to quote supplies at from £17 10/ to £18 10/ per ton, f.o.r. Pukekohc Theee quotations represent an increase of from £2 10/ to £3 per toil on last week's rate. Providing the weather remains, fine, the position should be relieved considerably towards the end of this week, but it is anticipated that some time will elapse before supplies catch up with the demand.
