IMPROMPTU TRIBUTE.
BY MR. RICHARDS' CHAIRMAN. A HAED-WORKING MEMBER. A tribute to the work of Mr. A. S. Richards, the Labour candidate for Roskill, during hie term as member was paid by Mr. M. P. Welsh, who presided at Mr. Richarde' meeting at the Baptist Hall, May Road, last night. Mr. Welsh said that on every occasion on which Mr. Richards' support had been sought for the benefit of the farming section of the electorate, Mr. Richards had done all that he possibly could. Mr. Welsh, recalled that when rnenvoers of the Producers and Vendors' Association, of which Mr. Welsh is president, went to Wellington to oppose amendments to the Milk Bill, they met with members of all opinions in Bellamy's. A member asked the delegation where it came from. When told that it was from Roskill, the member replied, "Oh, old Richards' electorate. He is one of the hardest workers in the House." Mr. Richards denied that he had voted in favour of the raising of the exchange, and quoted from Hansard to prove it. He also said that in Parliament he had contended that assistance was being •riven through the tariff to wealthy British exporters at the pxpt>ni=e of New Zealand manufacturers. Mr. Richards was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence.
