ROWDY MEETING.
MANY INTERJECTORS. MR. C. H. CLINKARD HECKLED. AT MATAMATA TOWN HALL (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MATAMATA, Tuesday. The address given by Mr. C. H. Clinkard, sitting National Government candidate for Rotorua, at tno Town Hall proved ono of tho noisiest political meetings ever held in Matamata. The audience was largely hostile, but Mr. Clinkard's ready repartee won him much admiration and prevented the meeting from getting out of control. After defending the Government's economy measures, Mr. Clinkard, dealing with Mr. Savage's statement that the Government was controlled' by financial institutions, instanced the reduction in interest rate, conversion loans and the taking over of gold to prove the contrary. He eaid he would always blame some of tho Labour! speakers in the House for the riots in Wellington. (Uproar.) Voices: Get on with your policy. Two seats in Cabinet had been offered to the Labour party, continued the speaker. A Voice: Will you walk into my parlour ? Air. Clinkard: That's the Labour party and guaranteed prices. If they had sprung that just before the election they might have got in, but now it has been shown up. There is not a business man on the Labour benches. (Uproar.). Mr. Clinkard:. Oh, I forgot Mr. Langstone.' He ran a fried fish shop. A Voice: That is a foolish remark. What about Mr'. Schramm? Mr. Clinkard: A solicitor is hardly a business man. Continuing, the speaker said he was opposed to high insurance premiums, but the Labour party would do away with interest, and thus would do away with life insurance. Voices: Bosh! A vote of thanks was carried. An amendment of so confidence found no seconder.
