STANDARD WAGES.
DEMOCRAT DEFiNES THEM. PARTY'S EMPLOYMENT PLANS. The policy of tlie Democrat party in regard to the provision of employment, at standard rates of pay, occupied a good deal of Mr. W. G. Clavis' address in Hirst's Hall, Morningside, last evening. Mr. Clavis is the Democrat candidate for Roskill. After explaining the party's loan policy, by means of which unemployment relief would be provided, Mr. Clavis declared -that in the first year the party was pledged to provide standard wages for 10,000 unemployed. "What do you mean by standard wages'!" asked ail interjector. "I mean the rate of pay paid as a standard wage in the man's own trade," replied Mr. Clavis. The same member of the audience then asked what was to become of the remaining 40,000 unemployed. "We will sustain them on the present rate, without subjecting them to the indignities under which they are at present suffering," replied the candidate. Mr. Clavis was accorded, a vote of thanks.
