PAPAKURA RESERVE.
SECURED FOR TOWN BOARD. MR. J. N. MASSEY THANKED. Mr. J. N. Masscy, National Government candidate for Franklin, was the principal guest at a public luncheon given by the Papakura Town Board yesterday in the Broadway Lounge to mark the district's appreciation of his efforts in securing for Papakura the railway reserve, an area of about eleven acres, as a public reserve and recreation ground. The chairman of the board, Mr.. H.. E. McEntee, who presided, said they had met not as individuals but as the representatives of institutions and organisations whose diverse character made the gathering fully representative of Papakura and district to mark an important occasion in the history of the district. "We meet to express to Mr. Massey our thanks and appreciation for securing for the use of Papakura and district that valuable block of slant? known as the railway reserve," he said. Mr. A. Willis, president of the Papakura Beautifying Society, the Rev. W. C. Wood, Mr. F. 11. Leonard, of the Great South Road Beautifying Council, and Mr. E. D. McLennan, also spoke. In reply Mr. Massey said he was always keen on open spaces and mentioned the assistance given by Sir James Gunsori in securing this railway reserve. "What I have done," said Mr. Massey, "I have done for the people as a whole, and if I can secure any other benefits for the people, call on inc."
A resolution was carried expressing the thanks of residents of Papnkura and surrounding districts to Sir James Gnnson for his assistance in .making the transfer of the reserve from the Kailways Board to the Lands Department.
