Men's Doubles.—Semi-finals: Crawford and McGrath beat Ferguson and Chrystal, 6—3, B—6, 9—7; Quist and Thompson beat Hopman and Kay, 11—9, .7—5, 7 —5. Miss. Nicholls started well against Miss Hartigan, champion of Australia and New Zealand, and led 3—l before Miss Hartigan got her famous forehand working smoothly. Miss Hartigan won five games in sucession to win the set. Miss Nicholls could not gauge the pace of her opponent's shots in the second set and "outed" her returns.

The New Zealander did not play cbnfidently enough to test Miss Hartigan's backhand. The. Australian's forehand drives repeatedly found the sidelines with Miss Nicholls out of position. Donohoe developed a bad cramp in the mixed doubles and forfeited the match. Quist proved steadier than Crawford in the singles championship. Quist took the net and forced Crawford into errors.
