LEASE OF CITY BUILDING.
In order to accommodate the staffs of the Government Departments which arc at present housed in the old post office in Shortland Street while the new street is being made to link Shortland Street with Fort Street, the Government has leased three floors of the premises in High Street known as Nathan's Building. It is intended to have the post office and National Provident and State Fire offices on the ground floor. The Labour Department's inquiry office will be on the ground floor also, and the. same department will use the rest of .the accommodation on the other floors. Arrangements have been made for offices for the conciliation commission and wage tax inspectors. The necessary arrangements in the new building- will be made by the Public Works Department, and about a hundred Government employees will be affected by the change over. The new premises are close to the old post office. Some time ago part of the building was used as an open warehouse, and lately the antiques exhibition was held , there. The new 'Government building in Shortland Street will be eight storeys in height; and the new street will be between it and the National Bank building.
