A PUZZLED ELECTOR.

May I draw attention to an alarming phase" of the present political situation. I have followed very closely all the promises and alleged remedies for our various troubles in this country. It is quite clear that most of them are purely experimental, and in consequcnce must be regarded with suspicion. Four years is too long for a Parliament to occupy the Treasury benches, and I have not vet seen where any of tlio candidates have pledged themselves to sock the return of the people's rights to them in this respect. We have to thank the National Government for altering the three years' franchise, and I maintain they had no mandate to do it from the people. Guaranteed prices is a twin brother of high exchange, and merely perpetuates the same evils. Neither one nor the other should be interfered with by legislation. These experiments are just as dishonest as a trader loading his scale weights. The natural law of supply and demand can only be manipulated by imposing man-made trouble and hardship on someone. The Democrat party's proposals are disappointing in the extreme, and the outstanding feature is the borrowing of £8,000,000 up to £20,000,000 and the unemployment levy is to be used to pay the interest bill on it, thereby making that wretched class of taxation a permanency for all time, for we all know that national debts never do get paid. Sir, I am merely seeking enlightenment, for I feel I have nothing I can vote for. HEREWAKD.
