INCREASE OF ACTIVITIES. NET LOSS ON YEAR'S WORK. The growing activities of the Auckland centre of the St. John Ambulance Association are reflected in the 44th annual report of the centre. The transport department and nurses had a very busy year and expansion is shown in every branch of the association's work. A net loss of £030 for the year ended December 30 is revealed in the report. The general account shows a surplus of £189, tlio transport service account a loss of £207, and the district nursing account a loss of £508. The annual street collection on October 4 produced £932 and donations totalled £544. The eight Auckland ambulances were continually on the road and travelled a total of 74,839 miles, as against 05,912 last year, carrying 10,053 patients, as against 9610 last year. First aid was given to 4390 cases on the wharves and 0217 attended at the clinic. .The district nurses visited 13,514 patients, over 1000 more than last year, and travelled 19,547 miles. A tribute is paid in the report to the efficiency of Mr. S. E. Langstone, secretary-manager, in all branches of the work. The brigade reports a total strength of 1419. Members on public duty treated 10,500 cases, and 3210 other patients were given first aid. Members of the nursing divisions treated 4932 cases at Church medical clinics. Efficiency Stripes Award. Efficiency stripes for. 1934 have been awarded to the following cadets in the Auckland district: —Auckland ambulance division: Cadets N. L. Scelly, W. Robb, D. Trigby, K. Tripp, S.' Cavit, E. Hancox, A. McCarthy, R. Jennings, A. Appleby, S. McLennan, H. Walker, W. Wasey, R. Gillespie. Appointments in the district have been approved by the chief commissioner as follows: —Messrs. B. Briggs, A. Miller and P. E. Swift, of the Gisborne cadet division, as corporals.
