REQUEST REFUSED.
CHRISTMAS DAY PICTURES. PAPAKURA BOARD'S VIEW. An application for permission to hold pictures at Papakura on Christmas Day was refused when it came before the Papakura Town Board last evening. Members of the board also expressed themselves opposed to such entertainment being permitted on Good Friday or Anzac Day. "I have always been opposed to pictures being permitted on two days of the year —Christmas Day and Good Friday," said the acting-chairman, Mr. D. Weir. He said that previously applications had been granted. Mr. H. D. Spinley declared that Mr. Weir's attitude, in his opinion, was the correct one, and that he would like to see Anzac Day a theatre holiday also. The board unanimously refused the application.
