TENSION EASIER.
SINO-JAPANESE SITUATION. SHANGHAI, November 11. The tense situation in Shanghai, caused by the murder of a Japanese sailor, allegedly by a Chinese civilian, is easier. The Japauese naval authorities deny sending an ultimatum to the Chinese, and say they merely sought full information. They deplore the mass exodus of Chinese from Chapei, which was severely bombed in to the International Settlement, and 'point out that this was due to baseless rumours, but fail to disclose that these, were spread by a Japanese newspaper. An earlier message said that a representative of the general staff of the Japanese Expeditionary Corps visited the Mayor of Shanghai and said that measures would be taken if the Chinese investigations into the murder of the sailor, Hideo Makayama, had no results. The Japanese gunboat Ataka is being sent from Tokyo to Shanghai.
