PERRY WITHDRAWS. N.S.W. CHAMPIONSHIPS. NEW ZEALAND WOMEN PLAY WELL. SYDNEY, November 11. Tim second day's play in the New South Wales lawn tennis championships was devoted to doubles, in which there were a number of unexpected wins. Perry has now scratched from all events owing to the injury to his back. It was subsequently announced that Perry will take no part in any competitions while in Australia. Results:— Men. —Turvey and Lewis beat Sproule and Donohoe, 6—l, 2—6, B—6, 6—2; Ferguson and Chrystal beat Bromwich and Huxley, 3—6, 6—4, 3—6, B—6, 6—3; Crawford and McGrath beat Blanchard and Tilnoy (United States), 6—2, 6—4, 6—2. Women.—Misses Nichols - and Beverley (N Z.) beat Mrs. Harper and Miss Berryman, 3—6, 6—4, 12—10; Misses T. and I. Poolo (N.Z.) beat Misses Tosh and Chrystal, 7—5, 6—4; Mrs. Betts and Miss Menzies beat Misses Miller and M. Kudkin (N.Z.), 6-3, 8-6. Mixed.—Turvey and Miss Hartigan beat Bromwich and Miss T. Poole, 6—o, 6-8, 6—l. . '■■' >\. All the New Zealanders showed improved form. The Poole sisters combined excellently, Thelne. scoring many points with smashes, while Irene was steady on the baseline. Misses Nicholls and Beverley recovered from love—3 in the final set against the Victorians, and played steadiest in the final stages to win a match notable for long rallies. AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. In the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's fourth grade competition (hard courts) on Saturday St. Stephen's beat Nicholson Park by nine rubbers to one. In the fifth grade match against Melrose Park the St. Stephen's representatives were defeated by eight rubbers to two. RIVERHEAD CLUB. At the official opening of the Riverhead Tennis Club on iSaturday, Mr. J. Johnson, president, welcomed vieitors from Auckland, Kunieu, Waimauku, Waikoukou, Woodhill and Hclensville clubs, and after declaring the courts open called on Mr. K. W; Griffiths, of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, to address the assembly. The latter mentioned the forward step the club had made in linking up with the Kaipara Association. Dr. Harris, president of the Kaipara Association, also addressed the gathering and said it was pleasing that two more clubs, Riverhead and Taupakl, had linked up with the association, which now had 19 eluba affiliated, thus giving opportunity for keen inter-club competition. After Mrs. J. Johnson had played the first ball, a Yankee tournament commenced, the winnere being E. W. Griffiths and Miss fj. Barnes. During the afternoon an exhibition match was played by members of the Auckland Association, those taking part being E. W. Griffiths, W. Butler, S. Handyeldo and J. Mason. LOWER WAIKATO CONTEST. In the Irfiwer Waikato Tennis Association's competitions Glen Masscy defeated Tauplrl South by 10 rubbers to 6; Ngaruawahia defeated Kainui by 10 rubbers to 6; iind Tauplrl North defeated Glen Afton by 0 rubbers to 7.
