BUSINESS IS FAIR. BANKS FIRMLY HELD. Moderate turnover was recorded at the first call, and the market was good. In the banking section there was a satisfactory demand, but offerings were scarce. Reserves," New Zea'lands, Unions, Australasias and English and Scottish all had buyers but no sellers. Auckland Gas "shares have made a slight recovery. Buyers were in at last sale price, namely, £ 1 5/6, but sellers stood off. Farmers' Trading were in good demand. Business was clone in B preference 3d higher at 14/9, after which the ordinaries were quoted closely between 7/2 and </3. A's were asked for at 18/, with no sellers, and B"s were quoted between 14/6 and 15/. Government stocks were again firm. The only responses to buying offers for all issues were a parcel of dissented at £102 and one of "55's at £108 15/. Woolworths (Sydney) had fresh business at £5 15/, after which buyers dropped back Gd and holders moved up to £5 16/. Consolidated Bricks Firm. Brokers were fairly busy during the morning, and a good list of sales was finalised at the noon call with a generally healthy tone evident. In the banking section New Zealand's recovered 3d with a sale at £2 10/9. and buyers still in at Id less, but holders jumped up to £2 11/3. In the Government stocks '55's had their first sale this month, showing at £108 5/ an advance of 7/6. Consolidated Brick continued their recent firming movement, and after sales at 10/3 and 10/2 there were still buyers at the higher figure.
