BANK HOLIDAYS.
THREATENED SAINTS' DAYS. STILL TO BE KKC'OGXISED. (By Telegraph. —Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. ~ The Banking Amendment Act passed during the hurried days of the end of the recent session contained, on its introduction, a new schedule of bank holidays from which throe Saints' days had been omitted, leaving ten bank holidays. Prominence was given to this fact, but in the subsequent rush of business it is doubtful if equal publicity was afforded an amendment of the measure in Committee of the House of Representatives, when the original schedule of former legislation was restored. Apparently the Government received critical comment on the proposal to drop three holidays. which doubtless emanated from the staffs of the banks. The proposal was strongly favoured by the commercial community. However, at that stage of the session, nothing contentious could he handled, therefore the holiday question was put aside for more leisurely consideration by Parliament, and St. George's Day, St. Andrew's Day, and St. Patrick's Day continue to be recognised by the banks as statutory holidays.
