Four nominations were received by the Presbyterian General Assembly for the position of Moderator-Designate, namely, llioeo of the Rev. T. 11. Roseveare (Papatoctoc), the Eev. J. Paterson (Wangamii), the itev. J. Lawson Robinson (Clirietohurcli) and the Rev. W. H. Howes (Otautau, Southland). The final choice was between Mr. Howes and Mr. Koseveare, and Mr. Roseveare was elected by 91 votes to 87. The vote was afterwards made unanimous.
Replying afterwards to the Moderator, Mr. Roseveare made it plain that the office was not of his seeking, but he said ho had allowed his nomination to go forward for the sake of his friends. He was, ho said, not one who aspired to high' office. However, he accepted the office with a very grateful and a very humble heart. A letter was read to the Assembly in which the clerk, the Rev. J. H. Mackenzie, intimated bis desire to resign as from tlie end of 1930, when he hopes to have completed 25 years in that offlce. A committee, comprising the Moderator, the Rev. G. Budd, and Dr. Dickie, was appointed to confer with Mr. Mackenzie.
