"The Times" Addis Ababa correspondent says a private source of information at Harrar reports that the ! long-expected Italian attack towards Jijiga was launched with a terrific bombardment of Gor alia i, Dagabur and Bulalc. Dedjaziuatch Afework ordered retirement from Gorahai to Dagabur and Bulale, whither munitions arc being rushed from Jijiga. Bulalo is well covered from the air and suffered little. It will probably be tlic pivot for the defence. The same source reports that Ras Desta's Sidamo army opened a counterinvasion, penetrating the boundary between the Wcbbo Shibcli Kiver and Dolo, in. Ogadcn, co-operating his forces at lmi. The British United Press correspondent at Harrar describes the majority of General Nasibu's troops as a disorganised mob rather thifti an army. Transport is defective and food scarce. ITALIAN DEBTS. £8,000,000 Owing to League Members. FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS. (Received 10 a.m.) GENEVA, November 8. Italy owes League countries £8,000,000 under clearing agreements. Creditor balances so far known include Britain and Franco £2,000,000, Rumania £1,750,000, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia together £1.2.30,000. Under the sanctions proposals the amounts, though obviously unrecoverable at present, will be regarded as definite financial obligations.
Brazil lias informed the League that she will not adhere to and will not support sanctions.
