Hours Behind Scott's Time at

Allahabad. FOUR FLIGHTS IN PROGRESS. United Press Association. —Copyright. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, November 7. Four flights are at present in progress to Australia, three being made by four Australian airmen, and one by two Polish flyers. Sir Charles Ivingsford Smith and Mr. T. Petliybridge, who left Lympne on Wednesday and reached Athens in their first hop, passed over Karachi at 7.35 a.m. to-day en route for Allahabad. The airmen are endeavouring to lower the England to Australia record set up by Messrs. Scott and Campbell Black in the Centenary air race and hope to reach Melbourne on Saturday. "Smithy" landed at Allahabad at 5.25 p.m., local time. He was then 2 hours 47 minutes behind Scott's time. The airmen left again at 6.25 p.m. for Singapore and passed over Calcutta at 9.0 p.m. "Smithy" washed and had refreshment at Allahabad. Ho stated that nothing untoward had occurred between Bagdad and Allahabad. Mr. C. J. Melrose, the young Melbourne airman, who left England on October 29, arrived at Calcutta at C.30 a.m. to-day and left for Rangoon at 8.15 a.m. He later reached that airport and departed for Alor Star. Mr. 11. F. Broadbent, Australia, who left England the same day as Mr. Melrose, also left Rangoon to-day for Singapore. Major Karpinski and his Polish companion, M. Rogalski, who are flying from Warsaw to Melbourne, arrived yesterday at Rangoon, and left for Bangkok this morning. They left Poland on October 21. CAPE TO ENGLAND. TWO FLYERS IN RHODESIA. British Official Wireless. RUGBY, November 7. Flying-Officer David Llewellyn and Mrs. Jill Wyndham, who are attempting to lower the record for the flight from the Cape to England, arrived at Broken Hill, Northern Rhodesia, early yesterday and left soon after for Aberco.
