BUSY BOAT BUILDERS.

The yacht and boat building yards continue to be busy. Colin Wild, of Stanley Bay, is getting on well with the 50-foot keel yacht for Mr. Scot Wilson, to be named Tawera, also with the big motor cruiser for Mr. Martin Wilson. At C. Bailey's yard there is a succession of seine net fishing boats being turned out for local owners, all about 50ft long. W. G. Lowe and Son also have boats of this type in course of construction and have just about finished a launch for Makogai Island. This boat has been built free of cost to the leper station, a few Auckland merchants paying for it. It will be carried free by the Union Company and delivered to the leper authorities without cost. Lidgard Bros, are as busy as possible on three new keel yachts and the rebuilding of Mr. Stan. Parker's 40-foot motor boat. Collings and Bell are busy on a 44-foot trawler for Mr. K. Walters, of Gisborne. She will be powered with a 53 h.p. Kelvin, which is expected to drive her fully nine knots. Also in this yard is a 45-foot launch to the order of the Tourist Department for use on Milford Sound. This vessel will be driven by a Gardner Diesel engine. She is designed to carry 60 passengers in comfort and is being built on the diagonal system. Alan Couldrey has made a first-class job of Mr. N. C. Mains' B class keel yacht. She is to be launched to-day and will be christened Waiomo. At Lane's yard there is a scene of activity, many of_ the large motor cruisers receiving their overhaul by this firm. Cox and Filmer are still busy with boats, although not now located on the waterfront. W. Rogers, of Curran Street, will put his new 14-footer down this week. P. Yos, of Freeman's Bay, is making good headway with Mr. R. L. Stewart's auxiliary keel yacht, and has started work on another, with a third one, about 40ft overall, to be laid down when the other two are off the stocks. All the amateur builders are pushing on with their self-imposed jobs and they nope to be afloat before Christmas.
