INJURY TO FINGER.
COMPENSATION AWARDED. MACHINIST TO RECEIVE £80. Judgment for £80,, in addition to amounts already received, was given in the Arbitration Court this morning for Herbert Victor Clarence Borland, machinist, of Mount Roskill (Mr. Glaister), who lost the top joint and part of the second joint of the left finger following injuries suffered at his work on May 10 last. The defendant in the action was H. J. Ryan, Ltd., engineers, of St. Paul Street, Auckland (Mr. Maliony). Plaintiff claimed £100 compensation, medical expenses and such further relief as the Court deemed ho was entitled to, but'it was admitted that he had received compensation at the rate of £2 18/8 a week from the date of the accident to July 8. Plaintiff was working a metal press in the defendant's factory when tlia accident happened, and it wa6 submitted on his behalf that he was wholly incapacitated from May 10 to July 15, and had suffered permanent partial incapacity. The defence was that the partial incapacity suffered was the loss of one joint of the finger and no more. The sum of £51 9/7 and costs was paid into Court, and it was submitted that this was sufficient to satisfy the plaintiff's claim.
