LAND SETTLEMENT.
MR. BROMLEY ON TOUR. PUBLIC WORKS PROGRAMME. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. A visit to various settlements under the control of the Waikato Land Settlement Society is being paid to-day by Mr. W. Bromley, deputy-chairman of the Unemployment Board, and Mr. J. S. Hunter, Unemployment Commissioner. They will spend to-night as the guests of Mr. D. V. Bryant at Bryant House, Raglan, where a Rotarian social function takes place, visitors being present from many towns in the North Island. Interviewed to-day Mr. Bromley stated that the Government's new Public Works programme would be financed partly through accumulated reserves of unemployment funds. The difference between the uneconomic and economic value of some of the works would lie made up from the unemployment funds. While there would be no relief on the board's finances, many men on relief would be placed on standard rates of pay.
