MR. EDEN'S POST.
REMOVAL STORY DENIED. (Received 0.30 a.m.) LONDON, November 1. The Central Office of the Conservative party states that reports that Mr. Anthony Eden is to be removed from his post as Minister in Charge of League of Nations Affairs, is without foundation. Mr. Baldwin, it is announced, has not considered the allocation of posts in the new Cabinet. The "Manchester political correspondent reported that the Government proposed to abolish Mr. Eden's post after the general election when the Cabinet will be reconstructed. It would give him either the War Office or the secretaryship of the Dominions. The abolition of the post would not imply any change in the Government's foreign policy or any weakening of the Government's support of the League, the paper stated. The post has been an anomaly from the beginning, and led to a 'suspicion of divided control. Moreover, it never seemed likely that a strong Foreign Secretary like Sir Samuel Hoare would tolerate it for a lengthy period.
The Government apparently had come to the conclusion that the post can be dropped now with benefit to the direction of foreign policy, the "Guardian" correspondent alleged.
