WEATHER IN OCTOBER
[ MORE RAIN THAN USUAL. J • Slightly more than tlie average amount of rain for October fell in Auckland last month, according to a report of the Government observer at Auckland, Mr. S. M. Yallop. There were no heavy falls during the month, variable winds were experienced, and gale force was reached on two days. The month's rainfall was 4.05 in, compared with 2.17 in last October. The maximum for any one day was .87in, as against last year's .75in. Bain fell on 16 days. Erratic changes in temperature were noticed, there bsing several sudden drops at night, and the range of variation covered 26deg. The mean temperature was 50.53deg, compared with 57.94 in October of last year. The mean maximum temperature was 63.1S deg, and the mean minimum 55.88deg.
There were four days without sunshine, the total period of sunshine for the month being 177 hours 42 minutes, as against 194 hours in the same month of last year. On October 22 the maximum period of sunshine was recorded, the sun shining for 11 hours 36 minutes. The month's mean barometric reading was 29.932.in, the maximum being 30.355 in and the minimum 29.443 in.
