SOUTHERN EXCHANGES.

BUSY MORNING AT CHRISTCHURCH (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. It was an active morning on the Exchange to-day, twenty-four sales being completed. In the banking section Commercials and New Zealands had sales at unchanged prices, while Reserves showed improvement, with a buyer at £6 2/ without response.

Guarantee Corporations had their first sale since the dividend was paid, 100 changing hands at 5/2, with a further buyer at 5/1 and no seller. New Zealand Refrigerating widened to buyers at £1 1/ and sellers at £1 2/6. Staples' improved, with buyers at £1 12/6, without response. New Zealands were stationary and Tooth's were strong, while Australian Iron and Steel had business at £1 5/. ex dividend, with further sellers. Australian Glass shares were firm, with buyers at the highest point in recent months offering £4 5/, and sellers at £4 6/. Broken Hills appeared on the sales list at a slightly easier price. Dunlops made one penny, and Elccti'olytic Zinc looked firm, with business at £1 12/9 and £1 13/ in ordinaries, and preference shares were also quoted stronger, with buyers at £1 17/7 and Bellers at £1 17/11. Coles showed a slightly weaker tendency, but Kauri Timbers had solid business at £1 3/4 and £1 3/6, improved from yesterday's sale prices of £12/ and '£1 2/9. Skippers improved %d, and Mount Lyells were firmer, buyers offering 19/4 and sellers asking 19/6. Argos were again active at unchanged prices, and Woolworths (Sydney) made 3d. with unsatisfied buyers at £5 11/9 and sellers at £5 12/.
