(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CARTEB.TON, thie day. Mr. Hans C. Thomson, Independent candidate for the Wairarapa seat, opened his campaign at Carterton last night. There was a small attendance. Pie denounced the high exchange, tho deflation of currency, the increases in the national debt, and advocated a return of the gold standard, and a scrapping of the Ottawa agreement. He Urged the establishment of secondary industries, protected by high tariffs, and considered that immigration was mainly responsible for unemployment troubles. The candidate also advocated the fixing of a fair wage and the reading of the Biblo in schools.
