EARLY LEGISLATION.
POLICY OF GOVERNMENT. INDICATION BY MR. FORBES. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. An indication that the Government will bring down legislation before the closc of the session to outline its policy in rcspect of sanctions was given by tho Prime Minister, Mr. Forbes, this morning.
Article 16 of the League Covenant deals specifically with sanctions and states that, should any member of the League resort to war "it shall be deemed to have committed an act of war against all other members, which undertake immediately to subject it to severanco of all trade and financial relations."
In the Federal House of ■Representatives recently the Australian Prime Minister announced that the Federal Government was prepared in principle to adopt sanctions against Italy recommended by the League's Committee under Article 16, by removing all restrictions on the export of arms and ammunition to Abyssinia, by prohibiting .the export of arms and munitions to Italy, and by stopping bank credits and other forms of financial assistance to Italy.
