WANGANUI HORSES.
TRENTHAM CANDIDATES. PROSPECTS OF MIDIAN. (Siicclal to "Star.") WANGAXUI, Monday. The Image lias shown distinct signs of improvement sincc winning at Otaki. She is engaged at both Waverley and Trentham during the week-end and wherever she races she is likely to make tilings interesting. At Trentham she is in the October Handicap, one mile,, and her track work suggests she will run out this distance very well. If she goes to Trentham she will accompany Spiral, Imposture and Moquette, who are due to leave on Thursday. O. Humphries will ride Spiral and Moquette in their engagements at Trentham on Saturday, but has another mount in the Taita Handicap and consequently L. J. Ellis will be on Imposture in that event. Since his return from Auckland Spiral has gone on the right way and lie should strip a very fit horse at Trentham. He looks a picture and has been hitting out in very pleasing style. Sincc her return from Auckland Moquette lias been galloping in her best style and the Limond filly will probably show at Trentham that her form in the Welcome Stakes at Ellerslie was all wrong. If she races up to her home track efforts •Moquette should be handy at the finish of the Wellesley Stakes.
Midian lias not been accepted for in the Waverley Cup and the eon of Weathervane will fulfil his Trentham engagement. Midian has done well since winning a double at Wanganui and if he goes to the post in the Shorts Handicap on Saturday he will keep the best of the others busy.
If Ruri and Ned Cuttle make the trip to Trentham they will be ridden l>y C. P. Shield, who will also have the mount on Sunee.
