HOMAI CLUB.
.Beautiful weather conditions prevailed at the. official opening of the Jellicoe Park Tennis Club's court at Homai on Saturday. Mr. J. H. Edwards, the president, thanked all workers who had assisted in the renovation of the courts. Many improvements had been made, including the erection of shelter fences, extra buildings and new. netting, all of which helped to bring the T ,courts up to fine playing condition.
Many visitors wero present from various centres. Mrs. J. H. Edwards served the first ball, after which the courts were declared open. Afternoon tea was provided in the Homni Hall, presided over by Misses D. Watts arid Dobson. The Manurewa Boys' Band was in attendance, and contributed some light enjoyable music
HERNE BAY CLUB.
With the opening of the. 1935-36 tennis season the Heme Bay Lawn. Tennis Club, which until recently was known as the WM.C.A. Club, celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary'of.'its fpunda'tion, and opened the new two-storeyed pavilion erected by voluntary labour of'members of the club. There was a record attendance of 250, some of whom were" foundation members. The president, Mr. E. E. Kitchener, in welcoming tho past, present and new members and" vlsitorfe, officially opened the pavilion and congratulated tho club on its progress. Referring briefly to" the history of 25 years, as an early member, he recalled the period when instead of five excellent grass courts, four hard courts and a twostoreyed pavilion, members had to contend With three courts, which were used by boys for football in the winter and a cricket pitch in the oentre of the courts in summer, while a pavilion was unknown. Other speakers • were Mr. P. Harrison, president, and Mr. S. Cleal, vice-president of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association; Mr. J. McCoskrie, patron of the club, and Mr. W. H. F-ortune, captain, who was presented with a clock by -the members as a token of appreciation for services rendered to the club. The silver jubilee celebrations will be continued this week with an ''At Home" on Tuesday afternoon for ladies, a dance in the new clubhouse on Wednesday evening, and a visitors' day on Saturday afternoon.
RIVERHEAD CLUB.
Mr. .T. Johnson, president of the Elverhead Tennis Club, presided over a large attendance of members at their annual meeting. Mr. sohnson stated tliat the position of the club was most satisfactory, and that progress had been the keynote in tho past year's work. The membership of the club was now close on 50, and the financial position was sound. An up-to-date pavilion had been erected during tho winter. A third court had also been formed by voluntary labour, which would be of great benefit to tho elub. Tho election of officers resulted :—President, Mr. J. Johnson; vice-presidents, Messrs. S. R. Gould; P. Lingard (sen.), A. King and A. Burr,; jun.; secretary, Mr. R. Hall: assistant-secretary, Mr. C. J. Hall; executive committee, Messrs. 11. McMillan, F. Hardy, C. King, C. Hall, B. Munro and A Prouse; captain, Mr. S. R. Gould; vicecaptain, Mr. C. J. Hall: social committee, Misses A. Gould, M. Christiansen, D. Pook, Mrs. S. R. Gould: nnd Mrs. R. C. Hall. Messrs. E. Ellis, F. Hardy, P. Lingard and 1. Pook.
