MTD-WEEK FINAIh MARITIME WINS ABBL CUP. The 1035 season of the Auckland Football Association was brought to a close at Blandford Park on Saturday, when Alarjii o mot Hospital in the mid-week knockout final for the Abel Cup. The weather' was Ideal and there waa a fair attendance of spectators. The teams lined out as follows: — Maritime: Surtees, Ellis, Wade,. Marr, Farnam Cochrane, Martin, Hunter, Marr, Hamilton, Woolsey (maroon). Hospital: J. Gavan, Brittain, Talbot, Elliott Ross, Thompson, Broadfoot, Stewart, A. Gavan, Hempstead, Chatham Keferee: Mr. Ron. Webster. The game opened sensationally. Hospital pressed and Gavan. Broadfoot and Stewart each tested the Maritime goalie with low, hard shots. Surtees was forced to concede a corner and from the resulting kick Hempstead headed a fine goal for Hospital. Hospital 1, Maritime 0. .Maritime got going after this reverse and from a free kick in midfleld, which was taken by Wade 70 yards out, Brittain deflected the ball into his own goal. Hospital 1, Maritime 1. Some lively exchanges were then witiessed. the ball travelling from goal to coal, and Farnam, Ross, Hamilton an<l Savan being prominent. Neither side could Cain any advantage and the scores at nallime were unchanged. On resuming, Maritime pressed continuilly Cochrane. Farnurn, Hunter and Wright combining effectively. From a melee in rout of Hospital's goal, Martin secured incl netted for Maritime after Gavan had mrtinlly cleared. Maritime 2, Hospital 1. Hospital tried har* to make up the lee.vny, but the soundfllefence of Wade and Mills kept them out. Ross at centre half for Hospital distributed the ball well, but ;ot no support from his forwards. Broad foot almost got through, but Surtees saved in the nick of time. Maritime kept on bombarding their opponents' goal and were rewarded at last, when, with a minute to go, Farnam beat Gavan with a spectacular ■'daisy-cutter," Maritime thus running out the winners by 3 goals to 1.
