BAKERS' APPRENTICES.
WAGES FIXED .BY COURT.
The Arbitration Court has fixed the following wages for apprentices to the baking and pastrycooking industry in the Northern Industrial District, except Gisborne:— For apprentices whose age at commencement docs not exceed 18 years:— For the first six months, £1 If per wftpk; second six months, £1 11/6; third six months, £1 16/; fourth six months, £2 0/6; fifth six months, £2 5/; sixth six months, £2 9/6; seventh six months, £2 14/; eighth six months, £2 18/6; ninth six months, £3 3/; tenth six months, £3 12/. For apprentices commencing to serve as apprentices after having attained the age of 18 years:—For the first six months, £1 16/ per week; second six months, £2 0/6; third six months, £2 5/; fourth six months, £2 9/6; fifth six months, £2 1.4/; sixth six months, £2 18/6; seventh six months, £3 3/; eighth six months, £3 12/. The only matter referred to the Court was wages. The representative of the employers, Mr. W. Cecil Prime, records his dissent from the rates fixed. •He holds that, having regard to the rates paid to apprentices in other industries and making allowance for the special circumstances •of employment in bakehouses, the rates fixed for apprentices are unduly high.
