EMERGENCY LANDINGS.
GROUNDS IN N. CANTERBURY. CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Preliminary investigations for the construction of six emergency landing grounds in North Canterbury have now been completed by the Public Works Department. The work is part of the scheme recently announced by the Minister of Employment, Mr. Smith, for the construction of a chain of aerodromes and landing grounds throughout the Dominion for the use, if necessary, of aeroplanes when the regular transport services start shortly.
The sites are along the line of the principal route for the services. No sites have been definitely selected, but the following grounds have been investigated:—Motunan River mouth, Hurunui River mouth, Conway River mouth, Amuri Bluff, Kaikoura suburban and Hapuka.
