EDUCATION BOARD.

TERM DATES FOR NEXT YEAR. LEAVE EOll CAMPS REFUSED. The Auckland Education Board to-day agreed to the following school terms for 1030:—First term: Monday, February 3, to Friday, May 8; holidays, Good Friday, Easter Monday and Tuesday (Anzac Day falls on a Saturday). Second term: Monday, May 25, to Friday, August 21; holiday. King's birthday. Third term: Monday, September 7, to Friday, December 18; holiday, Labour Day. School statistics for the term ended August showed a total on the roll of 63,103 (32,077 boys and 30,120 girls) and an average attendance of 57,402. In a letter from the Auckland City Council regarding the supply of milk to certain schools, the secretary (Mr. Dunlop) said in answer to a question that the board had supplied certain information but had not been consulted regarding the choice of schools. It was decided to thank the City Council for instituting the system. The Director of Dental Hygiene advised that the Piako Road (Gorffonton) committee's request for dental treatment for the pupils had been noted for consideration when an 1 extension was possible. Regarding the board's representations for a travelling clinic, he said the Department still regarded the Wanganui travelling clinic as experimental.

A list was received from the Defence authorities of 15 teachers whose presence was desired at territorial camps between the early part of February and late March. The board had previously asked that camps should bo held during the holidays as far as possible, and had promised consideration of special cases. It was decided that to grant the request would cause so much disorganisation that the board must regretfully decline it.
