BURDEN OF SANCTIONS.
SACRIFICES NECESSARY. PEACE WILL JUSTIFY LOSSES. United Press Association.—Copyright.—Rec. 11.30 a.m. GENEVA, October 15. The sub-committee for the organisation of mutual support between States in regard to financial and economic measures under Article XVI. consists of Spain, France, Greece, Poland, Rumania, Britain, South Africa, Russia and Yugoslavia. Senor Cantos (Spain) presides. The object is to find means of lightening the burden of sacrifices made by certain countries in applying sanctions. The Secretariat is preparing statistics of Italy's foreign trado according to classes of commodities, to be in readiness for the next meeting of the sub-committee. Senor Cantos explained that there was no idea that certain countries should obtain compensation for the sacrifices they have to make, or that others should give such compensation. "We are all called on to make sacrifices for the restoration of peace Peace is well worth sacrifice. It demands fever sacrifices than war but in accordance with paragraph 3 of Article XVI. we must have agreement to minimise loss and inconvenience.''
ROME'S APPROVAL. COUNT VINCI'S ACTION. (Received 12.30 p.m.) ADDIS ABABA, October 15. The Italian Minister, Count Vinci, who is now under arrest following his refusal to leave at the order of the Emperor, is delighted to learn that Italy has approved of his "emulation of the captain of a sinking ship." NEW LEADER. ABYSSINIAN GENERALISSIMO. LONDON, October 15. The "Daily Mail" Jibouti correspondent says the Emperor has appointed General Hawariat (recently the Abyssinian representative at Geneva) Generalissimo of the Ethiopian armies. He will travel immediately to Egypt by air and thence by steamer. He should reach Addis in eight or nine days.
CROWDING INTO LIBYA. 50,000 ITALIAN TROOPS. ROME, October 15. The Matauro Division of 7000 men from Ancona left for Libya to-day, bringing Italian forces in that colonv up to the total of 50,000. FEAR OF TANKS. ITALIANS IN ERITREA. LONDON, Octobcr 15. The "Daily Mail" Addis Ababa correspondent ' says it is reported that 12 Italians in Eritrea were shot because they refused to enter tanks owing to the terrific heat. .In spite of those executions the troops arc still refusing to work the tanks. AGAINST ITALIANS. WAITERS DEMONSTRATE. , LONDON, October 15. Three hundred waiters and chefs, carrying placards inscribed: "Boycott hotels staffed by Italians," "Britons are 011 the dole while Italians have got their jobs," marched through London streets yesterday and held a demonstration in Hyde Park.
The Emperor's three-engined aeroplane is to be placed at" General Hawariat's disposal. This will enable him to direct the campaigns on the Ogaden and northern fronts simultaneously.
