NEW TELEPHONE LINE

WHANGAMATA DISTRICT. COMMUNICATION" WITH WAIHI. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. Tlio Mayor, Mr. W. M. Wallmitt, has been advised by Mr. J. McDerniott, chief engineer of the Postal Department, Wellington, that, with reference to the need of telephonic facilities for Wlianganiata settlers, as between that district and Wailii, as urged by a representative meeting of the business men and settlers held at Wailii last July, authority lias now been given for the construction of a line and for the establishment of a telephone office at the latter place. As part of the material required for the line is not immediately available it may be near the end of the year before the construction of the line can be put in hand. The urgency of the work is, however, realised and there will be no avoidable delay.
