HEALTH AND THE SOIL.
! SOIL SURVEYS AND WATER ANALYSES. (To the Editor.'/ / There liave been many references in the Press of recent months to the incidence of dental decay, goitre and malnutrition in certain districts, and the facts seem to point to certain local peculiarities in the soil or in the water supply. It is hoped that the authorities will now institute a programme of soil surveys and qualitative and quantitative analyses of the water supplies of the affected . ar eas so that remedial measures can he i devised. Similar action elsewhere has shown that the water supply was either "too hard" or "too soft" for drinking purposes, or that ■the soil composition was to blame fo.- ihe sickness prevalent in such localities.
