HOUSE IN A HURRY. ESTIMATES THIS WEEK. ELECTIONS NOVEMBER 20 1 (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Monday. Having broken the back of the Estimates last week, the House of Representatives should dispose of them this week, and the way will be clear for consideration of a batch of bills now figuring on the Order paper. It is the hope of the Prime Minister, Mr. G. W. Forbes, that the House will be able to settle down to a discussion of bills this week, and with members becoming increasingly restive about the position in their electorates, it is not thought likely that consideration of the measures will be unwarrantably prolonged. Of the 12 Government measures set down for consideration the two of most pressing importance are the War Pensions Amendment Bill and the Mental Defectives Amendment Bill, both of which are ready to enter the Committee stages. Having said plenty about these two measures already, Labour is not likely to offer any great obstruction to '.heir passage. There will, of course, be the Finance Bill, which will be necessary to implement the promised increases in salaries and pensions. In the lobbies the possibility is being canvassed of the general election being held on November 20, which is a Wednesday, or on the day following, instead of at the end of November as has been generally anticipated. It is considered in some quarters that an early election may react to the Government's advantage, but it will mean that candidates will have to crowd a good deal of hard electioneering into a few weeks. This will tend to hasten the end of the session.
